It's about proteins and discovery.
Proteomics International is both a contract service provider and research and development company, focussing on developing value from unlocking the protein code specifically for drug discovery and biological research.
High quality ISO/IEC 17025 accreditated, quick and affordable protein identification, analytical and characterisation services are routinely provided. Proteomics International combines the most advanced high throughput mass spectrometry instrumentation (MALDI TOF-TOF, LC/MS/MS and Qtrap) and a strong team of qualified scientists with proven expertise and extensive experience in protein and peptide chemistry.
The company has two focal research activities; analysis of venoms and the discovery and use of biomarkers from human, animal and plant tissue. Skills developed from these research programs are incorporated into the sophisticated suite of specialist contract research techniques provided to clients. Proteomics International, incorporated in 2001, is based in Perth, Western Australia and has established itself as an industry leader in the delivery of contract research and lead molecule discovery services in the Asia Pacific region. The company boasts and impressive array of clients from the pharmaceutical industry and the company has established strategic partnerships with key research stakeholders in Singapore, Australia and India for discovery purposes. The range of services provided include the following:
Contract research services accreditated for compliance with ISO 17025 laboratory standards are routinely delivered for many international clients to identify molecules, differential expression and full characterisation. Some of these include:
- Protein identification
- Mass spectrometry
- De novo peptide sequencing
- Peptide mass fingerprinting
- MS analysis of intact proteins and peptides
- Proteome mapping

- Differential expression
- iTRAQ
- 2-D Gel electrophoresis
- Quantitation - MRM
- Phosphorylation detection and disulphide mapping
- Project consultation
- Additional services
- N-Terminal sequencing
- Amino acid analysis
- DNA analysis my mass spectrometry
- Circular dichroism
- Surface plasmon resonance
- Analytical ultra-centrifugation
- Protein purification
- Fish species identification
- Peptide synthesis
- New drug molecules - venom peptide library derived from the world biodiscovery hot spots
- Biomarkers - for human disease
- Food identification through proteins
Proteomics International has developed its proprietary Bioven process that it uses to extract venoms from indigenous Australian and other arthropods. The peptides found from this work are screened in silico for potential bioactivity and leads taken on to further development. The costs and process time for drug discovery are diminished.
Biomarkers
The company's work with protein biomarkers has resulted in two major outcomes. Providing "truth in labelling" accreditation for a foodstuff has been developed by examining the protein profiles by mass spectrometry. The present focus is on fish substitution. How does diet affect disease, especially diabetes and obestity? A big question being tackled by the company using a unique cohort of patient sera. The answers will lie in diagnostics and in future, possible new drugs.
Intellectual property
The company has developed a range of novel methods and approaches to meet the objectives of clients and its own research and development.
