Surface Plasmon Resonance

Biacore is a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) technique which uses surface chemistry attachment to measure molecular interactions. Biacore measures the kinetics (on/off rates) of molecular interactions.

From this analysis the binding affinity of a ligand to acceptor (target) molecule can be determined. It is a useful measure of interactions during drug discovery and development. Biacore allows for various methods of attachment such as streptavidin binding of biotin, disulphide attachment through free cysteines etc.
